How To Choose A Scuba Diving Mask

Considering that the scuba diving mask is the most important component in your scuba diving gear, it only makes sense to pick the one that is right for you. So first, you must understand the differences between the different kinds of scuba masks, among other things.

Basically, there are just 2 different types of scuba diving masks. One of them has a single lens, and the other type has 2 lenses, and each of them has their upsides and their downsides. The double lens mask sits a bit closer to your face, taking less effort to equalize, and giving better peripheral vision. The single lens masks offer a bit more room inside, and are a good choice for those who are claustrophobic.

As far as the material of the mask, it should be made out of crystalline silicone (any and all quality diving masks are made out of this material). Scuba diving masks made of crystalline silicone have a nicer, softer, more flexible feel than masks made of cheaper materials, and are also more clear (and easier to see through).

As far as the price, almost all decent scuba diving masks will fall within the $45-$90 range. You can buy scuba masks for over $90, but there is no point really, since the increase in performance will be minimal. Also, if you go much below $45, then be sure that you are still getting a quality mask, since this is by far the most important piece of scuba diving equipment that you will be using.
